The morning hours started off mostly cloudy, with the chance of a few isolated coastal showers. As the hours ticked by, rain chances ramped up, hitting about 40% by late morning.
The most active weather is expected through the afternoon. By 2 p.m., the forecast calls for a 70% chance of showers and possible thunderstorms.
Rainfall is likely to become more widespread and heavier at times, especially along the I-4 corridor.
The rainfall will keep daytime highs lower than usual, mostly in the range of 81 to 84 degrees.
The clouds and rain should gradually move out Wednesday night, leading to drier skies.
Looking ahead, temperatures are forecast to rise again.
Thursday and Friday could see highs creeping into the upper 80s and even low 90s, but the chance of rain tapers to about 40% before dropping further this weekend.
Tropical outlook and Saharan dust
The National Hurricane Center has highlighted an area near Georgia and the Carolinas in the next two to seven days with a 10% chance of tropical development.
Another factor in play: Saharan dust.
Satellite models show dust likely to move over the region by Thursday, lowering rain chances a touch through the next couple days.
