Scattered storms and marginal severe risk expected into the weekend
ORLANDO, Fla. – Stormy skies are still in the forecast for Central Florida as Father’s Day draws closer. News 6 meteorologist Samara Cokinos says the region will keep seeing rounds of scattered showers and thunderstorms through the weekend, with a marginal severe risk highlighted especially for areas east of I-75.
According to the Pinpoint Weather team, the most intense storms may produce wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour, small hail, plenty of lightning, and potentially heavy downpours. This risk is expected to be highest in the late afternoon and early evening, based on the latest forecast graphics and Cokinos’ on-air update.
Afternoon downpours and strong storms likely—timing and impacts
Cokinos explains that the classic Central Florida summer pattern is back, with showers and thunderstorms likely developing early along the coast before a sea breeze collision pushes storm activity inland toward the I-4 corridor and eventually over to I-75. If you’re planning to be out late in the day, stay weather-aware between about 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.—that’s when the heaviest downpours and strongest storms are most likely. The forecast shows that activity clearing out after 10 p.m., leaving cloudy skies and muggy overnight conditions.
This daily setup is expected to repeat into midweek, with each afternoon bringing new chances for showers and storms. Overnight lows will stay in the mid to upper 70s under mostly cloudy skies, so plan on warm and sticky nights.
Father’s Day weekend forecast: Saharan dust, heat, and shifting rain chances
There’s an additional twist in the weather pattern: Saharan dust is moving in, which Cokinos says will likely keep rain chances a bit lower for a brief period. By Father’s Day, temperatures are expected to climb near 93 degrees with the rain chance dipping to about 40 percent on Sunday—providing a short break before rain coverage rises back to 50 percent on Tuesday. While this dust may limit showers a little, high humidity and summer heat will still be in full effect.
