Orlando man involved in crash with Tampa Police cruiser, troopers say
PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – An Orlando man could face charges for his involvement in a crash with a Tampa Police cruiser, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the 34-year-old was driving north on I-75 Sunday morning when he improperly stopped in the road. AdThe Orlando man and a passenger in his car, a 37-year-old man, suffered minor injuries in the wreck, troopers said. No one else was injured. Investigators believe the 34-year-old may have been impaired behind the wheel and charges against him are pending.

Florida man walking on I-75 struck, killed; 3 others injured
MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 51-year-old Florida man walking in a lane of I-75 in Marion County was struck and killed Tuesday night, leading to a chain-reaction crash that left three others injured, according to troopers. The Florida Highway Patrol said the fatal crash was reported at 7:40 p.m. on I-75 south at mile marker 358.5, north of State Road 326. Troopers said the man was walking in the left lane of southbound I-75 when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle. The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries, and a passenger, a Kissimmee woman, was critically injured, the FHP report stated. It’s not known why the man was walking on the interstate.

Men hurt in random I-75 shooting while heading to Super Bowl out of hospital
OCALA, Fla. – Two men are out of the hospital after they were hurt Thursday in a random shooting along I-75 in Ocala while on their way to the Super Bowl, police said. Investigators said the shooting happened in the southbound lanes of I-75 near exit 350. An officer found four men inside silver 2013 Honda CRV, two of whom had been shot several times, according to the incident report. Investigators believe the shooting was a random attack. The other two men in the backseat, a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old, were not hurt in the shooting, police said.

Shooting on I-75 leaves 2 injured, police say
OCALA, Fla. – Two men were injured Thursday when their vehicle was shot at on Interstate 75, officers said. The men told officers that they were traveling south toward Tampa when another vehicle passed them and began to shoot at their vehicle. AdThe men described the car as possibly a dark black or dark-colored sedan. “Two of the males in the vehicle being shot at were struck by bullets,” investigators said. “Both were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”The Ocala Police Department is asking anyone with information that could help investigators with this case to call Detective B. Pedestrian hit and killed in Marion County on US 441, troopers say
MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 38-year-old man walking with a his bicycle on U.S. 441 in Marion County was hit and killed by a car Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. According to the crash repot, the pedestrian was walking in the north inside lane on U.S. 441 north of Southeast 156th Street in a dark and unlit area. The driver of sedan failed to see the man and struck him. The driver stopped after the crash, according to the report. The 38-year-old victim’s name has not been released yet.

2 killed when rebar pierces windshield in I-75 crash, Florida troopers say
MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A man and woman were killed and another passenger was critically injured Tuesday night in a rear-end crash on I-75 in Marion County, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The rebar went through the van windshield, dragging the vehicle until the big rig came to a stop, troopers said. The man driving the van and an 80-year-old woman, both of Pennsylvania, died in the crash, the FHP said. Another passenger, an 82-year-old Pennsylvania man, suffered critical injuries, according to an FHP report. I-75 south was closed in the area while the FHP investigated the wreck.

One man in Florida found himself face-to-face with the Florida Highway Patrol after investigators said he was throwing golf clubs at traffic on I-75. According to troopers, Jonathan Edward Day, 41, of North Port was driving north on I-75 Wednesday. During his drive, troopers said Day was throwing golf clubs out of his van at adjacent traffic. Online jail records showed Day was being held at the Hillsborough County Jail Thursday morning. Jail records listed him as unemployed.

29-year-old motorcyclist dies in crash in Sumter County
SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A 29-year male from Brandon, Florida died in a motorcycle accident on I-75 in Sumter County, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Authorities said the man was riding his motorcycle on I-75, just north of exit 321, when the accident happened. The driver lost control of the motorcycle and collided with the guardrail in the northbound lane, according to troopers. The driver was ejected from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. Authorities did not give a reason for the crash happening.

ORLANDO, Fla. – As Florida awaits the weekend impacts of Hurricane Isaias, it will be a scorcher -- and mostly dry -- Friday in the Orlando area. Impacts across Central Florida appear to be low, with the biggest risk occurring right along the coast. Rain will be heavy at times and winds will be the strongest within Isaias' outer rain bands. It will not rain all weekend, but some of the rain bands can be nasty for a short time. Tropical downpours containing heavy rain and gusty winds will still be possible, just less widespread.

Authorities search for witnesses after 2 men fatally shot in car on I-75 ramp in Florida
TAMPA, Fla. – Authorities are searching for a pair of witnesses after two men were found dead in a car near a ramp to Interstate 75 in Tampa early Thursday, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Troopers said the men, ages 25 and 26, were fatally shot inside the vehicle. Witnesses told investigators that someone in a white Jeep Cherokee shot at the car. Man arrested after allegedly firing shots on I-75, deputies say
SUMTER COUNTY A man was arrested Saturday evening after allegedly firing gunshots on I-75 north near mile marker 309 and then fleeing from deputies, according to the Sumter County Sheriffs Office. Miguel Espinoza Navarro, 41, was allegedly waving his gun and shooting at vehicles from a black Ford truck before rear-ending a vehicle, deputies said. Navarro continued driving and then had a standoff with deputies after wrecking his vehicle a second time near mile marker 317, deputies said. After fleeing in his car again, Navarro wrecked his car for a third time and fled on foot, deputies said. No people or deputies were injured during the ordeal, deputies said.

2 hospitalized after Sumter County crash
SUMTER COUNTY – Two people were hospitalized after a two-car crash in Sumter County on Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The two vehicles were traveling north on I-75 when a FHP car slowed ahead of them, troopers said. The driver of the first vehicle swerved to avoid a collision with the FHP car and lost control, causing the car to rotate and collide with the left side of the second vehicle, according to troopers. The first vehicle overturned multiple times before coming to a stop, while the second vehicle came to a more controlled stop on the shoulder of the freeway, troopers said. One woman was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, while a boy was taken with minor injuries.
