Calm on coast, storms inland: Florida’s classic summertime pattern continues

Heat index to again reach 100+ in Orlando area

ORLANDO, Fla. Summer-like conditions are really kicking in across Central Florida as heat and storms have become a daily occurrence.

Whether you’re heading to work, taking the kids to the park or trying to squeeze in that evening jog, heat and storms will be a factor.

A strong high-pressure system sitting over Florida is keeping most of the area dry through the majority of the afternoon, allowing temperatures to have plenty of time to heat up before relief returns.

By late afternoon and early evening, inland neighborhoods will have the chance for a few pop-up storms, most of which are likely to fire up where the sea breezes from both coasts collide. If one pops up near you, expect some brief but intense downpours, lightning and gusty winds (up to 50 mph).

If you’re grilling out after work, walking the dog or doing yard work, just keep an eye on the sky and maybe have that weather app handy. Any storms that do form should fizzle out by midnight, mostly staying north and west of I-4.

Highs Wednesday will reach the low to mid-90s, but with the humidity, it will feel more like 100 to 105 degrees. That kind of heat isn’t just uncomfortable, it can be dangerous, especially if you’re spending time outdoors.

If you’re out running errands, working outside or hitting the theme parks, make sure to:

  • Drink plenty of water (not just coffee or soda!)
  • Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning
  • Know the signs of heat exhaustion—dizziness, nausea, fatigue

By Friday, moisture starts to increase again, bumping rain and storm chances back up to around 40-60%. Most of the storms will be scattered, producing pockets of lightning and heavy rain.

This weather patter is expected to stick around into early next week.

Daily highs will continue to hover in the 90s, with those “feels-like” temps reaching the low 100s again and again.
