OSHA calling on employers to protect workers as temperatures heat up
With temperatures reaching triple digits in several parts of the Southeast U.S., the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration is asking employers to protect workers from the dangers that come with such hot conditions.
Missing the heat? Staying chilly Sunday, but the first 90s of the year likely later in the week
Most of Central Florida will stay locked in the clouds and chilly weather Sunday, but sunshine will try to inch back in from east to west. Highs will be in the 50s ad 60s near the 75 corridor and closer to the low-to-mid 60s near Orlando. Brevard temperaturesThere will likely be a sharp divide in temperatures over a short distance as sunshine tries to march inland from the Atlantic Ocean. A few showers will still be around, mainly north and west of Orlando, but most stay dry Sunday afternoon. NBA tells teams to exercise caution when watching Super Bowl

Orlando’s game in Boston on Wednesday is also off, the third postponement since Sunday involving the Celtics. When teams started testing in late November prior to the start of training camps, 48 players had positive COVID-19 tests. Counting the two new postponements and another on Dec. 23 between Oklahoma City and Houston, the league has seen six games moved because of virus issues.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Storm chances that have been steadily increasing over the past few days will ramp up this weekend. The coast will get in on the storm action closer to dinner. In the last 50 years in Orlando our “summer” days have grown. Some cities now have a 15 day earlier start when it comes to 90 degree heat.
Forecasting Change: Hot streaks increasing leading to more air conditioner use
The problem we are looking at as we are Forecasting Change in the next decade is an increase in streaks of hotter days. In August of the future, the average high will move from our current high of 92 to 93 then 94 and, someday, to 95. Longer hot streaks expectedIf you work outside, I dont have to explain to you the problem with that heating. Air conditioning moves hot air outside and adds to the Heat Island Effect for population centers. Demand for air conditioning is projected by the Energy Information Administration to increase by 59% in U.S homes by 2050.

Highs today jump back into the low-to-mid 90s, It will be a pinch “cooler” west of Orlando with the earlier storm start time. Beach forecast:Moderate risk for rip currents SundayThere is a moderate risk for rip currents Sunday. Be ready to move off the beach earlier Sunday with scattered storms moving in from the west earlier than Saturday. These two waves are the likely start of a very active period in the tropics.
Near-record heat sizzles Central Florida Sunday
Orlando, Fla. This heat is a staple in August in Florida, of course, but Sunday well be within a few degrees of breaking records. The best shot to flirt with record heat will be inland. Tropical update:There is a low chance for a new tropical wave to develop over the next five days. This new tropical wave that emerged off of Africa Saturday has a low chance for development according to the National Hurricane Center. The Atlantic remains hostile with a lot of dry air around which makes it more difficult for storms to materialize.

ORLANDO, Fla. Most of Sunday will be dry with the exception of stray storm through the afternoon. Slightly better rain chances return early in the work week, but still below what we would typically see in summer in Central Florida. Tropical update:The NHC has highlighted a weak wave with a low chance for development over the next five days. The National Hurricane Center has highlighted a weak tropical wave near Hispaniola for the potential to develop over the next five days. Possible development would occur in the Gulf of Mexico after it increases rain chances for Florida by the middle of the week.

The heat surges back into Central Florida Sunday with highs returning to the low 90s. With the humidity factored in it will feel closer to 100 degrees at times. Like the past few days, storms will fire up after lunch and increase in coverage through the afternoon and early evening. Highs by Tuesday and Wednesday will top out in the upper 80s with much lower rain and storm chances. A few extra clouds bubble up through the afternoon and storms will be possible.

Above-average temperatures and high humidity for the weekend
