ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida is running into a burst of summerlike heat, with temperatures across the region climbing back into the 90s this week.
Wednesday marks the hottest day so far this year. But anyone looking for relief will have to wait a bit—Thursday is forecast to bring even more sizzle, with multiple cities potentially approaching or surpassing their daily records.
Orlando is expected to reach the upper 90s.
This summer-like pattern is the result of a strong dome of high pressure parked over the Gulf, keeping the region both hot and dry for the middle of the week.
Weekend shift brings the possibility of showers
The pattern is expected to shift as the weekend approaches. Forecast models suggest the high-pressure system will start sliding south and east by Saturday, moving over the Bahamas. This transition is expected to open the door for storm systems to move into the northern part of the state—meaning afternoon showers will pop up for Central Florida just in time for Mother’s Day weekend.
While this doesn’t mean an all-day washout, the odds for afternoon rain climb to about 30 to 40 percent on both Saturday and Sunday. If you’re planning to celebrate outdoors or treat mom to brunch under the sun, consider scheduling those activities for the morning hours, before rain chances kick in later in the day.
7-day outlook and safety reminders
According to the Pinpoint Weather 7-day forecast, the heat persists through Friday, with highs again in the mid-90s. By Saturday and Sunday, temperatures are expected to ease back into the low 90s as rain chances rise, bringing some potential relief for those feeling the burn.
