ORLANDO, Fla. – Planning a beach day, backyard BBQ, or a trip to the parks for the first weekend of summer? Beware as the heat is dialing up, and those afternoon storms are still lurking in the mix.
Friday’s setup looks similar to Thursday, with heat building through the day and scattered storms likely to pop up in the afternoon.
High temperatures will reach the upper 80s along the coast and low 90s inland. When you factor in the humidity, it’ll feel more like 100 to 107 degrees.

The same moisture that is making it feel hotter will also fuel another active afternoon. Expect a 50-70% chance of afternoon storms between I-95 and I-75 as the sea breezes collide.
Storms could pack gusty winds up to 50 mph, frequent lightning and heavy downpours.

Most of the storm activity should taper off after sunset, with a few lingering showers inland through midnight.
Weekend
This weekend, the heat takes center stage. Rain chances dip slightly, which means more sunshine and less cloud cover.

A lack of rain and clouds means temperatures will soar into the mid-90s, with heat indices up to 105 degrees.
The breeze looks to pick up this weekend, especially on Sunday when gusts could reach 20 to 25 mph.
Rain chances on Saturday and Sunday will stay lower than normal at 30-40% with scattered showers favoring inland neighborhoods late in the afternoon through early evening.

If you’re spending time outside, whether at the pool, a theme park or outside for a local event, know that the heat will be relentless and a rogue storm can’t be ruled out.
Next week
As we move into next week, expect even hotter conditions.
Inland highs will climb into the mid-90s, with coastal areas staying just a few degrees cooler in the low 90s. Humidity may ease a bit, but not enough to make a real difference in how it feels.
Afternoon rain chances will hover between 30-40%, mainly in the form of quick-moving showers and a few storms that develop along the sea breeze and shift west. Coastal locations may also see afternoon wind gusts up to 25 to 30 mph.
