Heat index up to 105 for some in Central Florida. Here’s when storms return

Orlando area under marginal storm risk on Wednesday

ORLANDO, Fla. – We’re looking at mostly dry conditions across much of Central Florida on Tuesday, with just a few isolated coastal showers.

But don’t get used to it, as rain and storm chances climb starting midweek, with some storms possibly turning strong to severe.

Here’s what to expect as the weather ramps up.

TUESDAY

Another mostly dry and breezy day is on tap across Central Florida, as the breeze picks up off the ocean at 10-15 mph.

A few quick-moving showers can’t be ruled out along the breeze, with coverage at 20-30%.

RAIN CHANCES TUESDAY

Otherwise, expect hot and humid conditions. Highs will reach the upper 80s near the coast and the low 90s inland, but it will feel more like 100–105 at the hottest part of the day.

WEDNESDAY

A small disturbance in the upper atmosphere will move over Florida, bringing cooler air aloft and a slight bump in storm chances (30-40%).

While the storm coverage won’t be widespread, any storms that do develop could turn strong to severe.

  • Gusty winds (45–50 mph)
  • Pea to Quarter-sized hail
  • Frequent lightning
  • Brief, heavy downpours

Due to threat of strong storms, the Storm Prediction Center has highlighted all of Central Florida under a marginal risk (Level 1/5) on Wednesday.

SEVERE RISK WEDNESDAY

LATE WEEK

The disturbance will lift north, pulling in additional moisture behind it. With more active sea breezes and better ingredients for storms to form and grow, expect more organized afternoon thunderstorms with coverage at 60-70%.

RAIN TREND

Throughout the week, expect temperatures to remain consistently hot, with heat index values reaching 105 degrees.
