This type of setup is not unusual for this time of the season. At this point, significant tropical development shouldn’t be a big concern.

That said, the presence of this stalled front will help keep rain chances elevated through the Fourth of July weekend.

Areas of Central Florida could see 2-5 inches of rain this week, while the Big Bend could get up to 10 inches of rain.

rainfall outlook

While the timing may be less than ideal for outdoor celebrations and events, there could be a silver lining: this system has the potential to bring much-needed rainfall to areas that have been trending dry.

drought

Whether it develops into something more organized, the increased moisture will be the dominant weather story in the coming days.

Keep an eye on the forecast, and be sure to have a backup plan for any outdoor activities.

The next named storm will be called Chantal.

Hurricane season began June 1 and runs through November.
