Hurricane center says there’s a 30% chance of development

ORLANDO, Fla. – A stalled frontal boundary over Florida this week could spark the development of a low-pressure system nearby.

The National Hurricane Center on Tuesday said there’s a 30% chance of tropical or subtropical formation over the next seven days.

Models remain uncertain about if or where the low might form, with some pointing to the Gulf and others to the Atlantic.

TROPICAL DEVELOPMENT

Regardless of tropical development, Central Florida faces a very wet week ahead.

Multiple rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected through Friday.

RAINFALL TOTALS

Flooding remains the biggest threat to Central Florida.

With several inches of rain possible in some areas, repeated storms could cause localized flooding, especially in low-lying and flood-prone zones.

EXCESSIVE RAINFALL

The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Level 1-2 for an excessive rainfall risk for east Central Florida through Friday.

The next named storm will be called Chantal.

Hurricane season began June 1 and runs through November.
