ORLANDO, Fla. – The storm system that brought flooding rain to parts of Central Florida Tuesday was moving west Wednesday morning across the Florida Panhandle.
The broad area of low pressure, known as Invest 93L, is tracking toward the northeastern Gulf and could still develop into a tropical depression before reaching the Louisiana coast late Thursday or early Friday.
The latest update from the National Hurricane Center keeps a 40% chance of development over the next two to seven days.
While the system remains disorganized, conditions over the Gulf could support further strengthening if it stays offshore.
Regardless of development, heavy rain and localized flash flooding remain the biggest threat for parts of the Florida Panhandle through Wednesday and for the north-central Gulf Coast starting Thursday and Friday.
