ORLANDO, Fla. – The National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on a tropical wave expected to move off the coast of Africa in the next day or two.

While development isn’t likely in the short term, forecasters have given the system a low 20% chance of development over the next seven days.

NHC is watching for a tropical wave to move off the coast of Africa over the next coupe of days. It could take on additional development as it moves west to northwest across the central tropical Atlantic. For now that chance is low over the next 7 days. (WKMG News 6)

As the wave tracks west to northwest across the Atlantic, environmental conditions could become a bit more favorable, allowing for slow development as it moves through the central tropical Atlantic later next week.

Right now, there’s no immediate threat to land, but it’s a good reminder that we’re in the heart of hurricane season—and this is the time of year when waves off Africa can bear watching.
