Tropical Storm Dexter forms over western Atlantic, NHC watching two other disturbances

ORLANDO, Fla. – Tropical Storm Dexter formed late Sunday night in the western Atlantic, the National Hurricane Center said, as forecasters monitored two other disturbances.

Forecasts show Dexter tracking away from the U.S. coastline.

The NHC continues to keep an eye on a tropical wave expected to move off the coast of Africa on Monday.

Gradual development is possible and a tropical depression could form later this week as the system moves west-northwest across the central tropical Atlantic.

Forecasters have given the system a 40% chance of development over the next seven days.

Forecasters are also watching for an area of low pressure that could form off the coast of the Carolinas. If it forms this area could take on additional development so the NHC has give that area a 20% chance of development over next seven days.

Some slow gradual development is possible in the middle to latter part of the week as it moves west to northwest.
