Heat advisory for parts of Central Florida as scattered storms in forecast

Heat index could top 108 in Marion, Flagler

ORLANDO, Fla. – A shifting high pressure pattern over Florida is setting up another classic summer day on Wednesday.

Moisture levels are running high, especially north of the I-4 corridor, which means there’s plenty of fuel for storms.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will develop Wednesday afternoon and evening, mainly along and west of the Orlando area. Rain chances sit around 50 to 60% for interior regions.

While the storms aren’t expected to become severe, they could still produce frequent lightning, wind gusts up to 50 mph and locally heavy downpours. Most of the activity will wind down by sunset.

Highs will reach the low to mid-90s, and when you factor in the humidity, it will feel like 100 to 107 degrees.

Marion and Flagler counties are under a heat advisory from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. as “feels-like” temperatures could exceed 108.

Thursday-Saturday

A touch of drier air will settle in, bringing rain chances down slightly (40-50%).

Scattered storms will once again develop early in the afternoon and push inland, with the best chances for rain focused over interior areas.

With a little less rain around, temperatures will have plenty of time to heat up into the mid-90s, with peak heat indices potentially reaching 108 degrees (close to Heat Advisory territory).

Sunday-Next Week

Heading into the weekend and early next week, high pressure will continue to shift gradually west and north.

This pattern will support daily afternoon and evening showers and storms, especially across interior areas (60-70%). With rising moisture levels, particularly near the I-4 corridor, storms could become more widespread.

At the same time, while Tropical Storm Erin looks to turn away from Florida next week, it will give coastal waters rough seas, high rip current risk and even minor beach erosion.

Temperatures won’t let up, with daily highs in the low to mid-90s with heat indices at 105-110.
