H-O-T! Florida swelters as high pressure limits storms. Here’s your forecast

Heat advisory issued for most of Central Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. – It’s going to be another hot and steamy day across Central Florida, with dangerous heat levels and a few late-day storms in the mix as we keep a close watch on Tropical Storm Erin.

Thursday

A ridge of high pressure is sitting over Florida, limiting how many storms pop up.

Some isolated to scattered storms may fire up inland later in the afternoon, especially where sea breezes meet.

While widespread storms aren’t likely, any that do form could bring gusty winds up to 55 mph.

The heat is the bigger concern. Highs will soar into the mid-90s, especially inland. When you factor in the humidity, heat index values could hit 110 degrees, which is why a heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Expect more of the same on Friday and Saturday, with heat advisories likely as rain coverage remains lower than normal at 40-50%.

Weekend into Early Next Week

The weather pattern starts to shift slightly by the end of the weekend.

Moisture increases across the region, boosting storm chances to 60–70% by Sunday and Monday.

That will help take the edge off the heat just a bit, though heat index values will likely still range at 100–105.

Watch for locally heavy rain as we move into early next week.

Tropical Storm Erin

We’re still keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Erin.

Most models agree it will turn north before reaching the Bahamas, which would mean minimal direct impacts for Central Florida.

Still, conditions along the coast, especially for beachgoers and boaters, are expected to worsen early next week, regardless of Erin’s exact path.

Large swells, rip currents and beach erosion will be the biggest concern.

While a turn away from the East Coast is likely, we need to continue to stay up to date throughout the weekend.
