ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Some ominous clouds moved over the Ormond Beach area on Thursday.

Shelf clouds tend to precede heavy rain and wind, and they form when warm air is forced up and over cooler air. The air condenses and forms the low-hanging, jagged clouds like the ones in the pictures.
