Storms return to Central Florida due to shift in weather pattern

Hurricane Erin spins off US coast

ORLANDO, Fla. – A shift in the weather pattern will bring a hot and stormy stretch for Central Florida as deep tropical moisture surges in, increasing rain chances sharply through the weekend.

Weather Setup

Thanks to Hurricane Erin spinning offshore of the Carolinas, our local wind pattern is helping to drag in more moisture from the Atlantic.

This means daily storm chances will increase to 60–70% for the next several days.

Rain Trend

Expect scattered to numerous showers and storms to pop up each day, developing inland and moving toward the coast.

The strongest storms will be found where sea breezes collide into the evening. Embedded in those storms we could see gusty winds (up to 55 mph), frequent lightning and localized downpours.

Heat Index

Highs will remain above average in the mid-90s through the weekend. With all the moisture in the air, feels-like temperatures will stay just below heat advisory levels at 100–105 degrees.

Storm chances remain high into early next week as a front stalls across north Florida, keeping deep moisture in play.

The heaviest rain threat arrives Sunday, where a Moderate Risk for excessive rainfall has been issued by the Storm Predication Center.
