Tropical Storm Lorenzo forms in Atlantic. Here’s the latest

Hurricane season ends Dec. 1

ORLANDO, Fla.Tropical Storm Lorenzo officially formed early Monday in the Atlantic Ocean.

The National Hurricane Center at 11 a.m. said Lorenzo was located in the central Atlantic, about 1,150 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands.

Lorenzo was packing 50 mph winds while moving northwest at 16 mph.

Tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 160 miles from the center.

Some gradual slowdown is expected through Monday, followed by a turn northward on Tuesday.

The storm is forecast to remain over open waters, and all reliable model guidance continues to show no threat to Florida.

The next named storm will be called Melissa.

Hurricane season runs through November.
