ORLANDO, Fla. – It’s been an unusual hurricane season to say the least.
Out of the 11 named storms to date, six were tropical storms, three became hurricanes and there was one subtropical storm.
Of the four hurricanes, the first three made it to major hurricane status. That hadn’t been done since 1935.
What’s even more unusual about those major hurricanes is all of them formed outside of the Caribbean.
Two of those hurricanes, Humberto and Erin, attained Category 5 status.
Arguably, the most eye-popping statistic lies with the number of days spent in the National Hurricane Center forecast cone.
To date, Arizona and New Mexico have spent 6 days each in the cone from a pair of tropical systems in the eastern Pacific.
That is double the amount of days Florida has spent in the cone during the 2025 season.
Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama have spent no days in the NHC forecast cone.
