ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida had the perfect front-row seat for November’s supermoon!
A clear, calm night gave skywatchers across the region a stunning view of the biggest and brightest moon of 2025. Viewers from all over Central Florida sent in photos showing off that glowing giant — did you catch it?
On Wednesday, Nov. 5, the full Beaver supermoon reached its peak, shining brilliantly even though its official peak time was around 8:19 a.m. This supermoon was extra special — at just 221,823 miles from Earth, it appeared noticeably larger and brighter than an average full Moon, which sits about 238,900 miles away.
So, what makes it a supermoon?
It happens when a full moon lines up with perigee, the moon’s closest point to Earth during its 27-day orbit. When the moon is within 90% of its closest distance, NASA says it earns that “supermoon” title — even though it’s more of a pop-culture term than an official astronomical one.
Skywatchers have had a lot to celebrate this year. 2025 wraps up with three supermoons in a row:
- Oct. 6 – Harvest supermoon
- Nov.5 – Beaver supermoon
- Dec. 4 – Cold supermoon
October’s supermoon lit up the sky in a bold orange glow seen around the world, and November’s was no different — bright, crisp, and absolutely dazzling over Central Florida.
Did you snap a photo? Keep them coming — we love seeing the night sky through your lens!
