Cold front on Sunday: Windy weather, dipping temps and high beach hazards

Colder mornings, rough surf expected as strong front moves through region

ORLANDO, Fla. – Sunday morning starts with patchy, dense fog in some areas. A dense fog advisory was in effect for Marion County, with visibility reduced to less than a quarter mile, but was set to expire at 9 a.m.

A front settles in on Sunday and isolated showers are possible Sunday and into Monday, though storms are not in the forecast. Rain chances are expected to remain low (around 20%) and another front arriving midweek could boost rain chances to 50% by Wednesday, but most of the area is forecast to remain dry until then.

You’ll want to bundle up Monday morning: wakeup temperatures are expected to dip into the 40s for many neighborhoods.

Factoring in wind chills, it may feel like the lower 30s in places such as Ocala and The Villages, and the 40s along the I-4 corridor.

Tonight

Sunday’s highs will hang in the upper 70s, but after the front moves in, daytime highs will slide to the upper 60s and low 70s for much of the week.

Sunday's highs

The cold front isn’t just bringing a temperature drop. Winds will pick up through Sunday afternoon, with gusts up to 20 mph possible inland and up to 25 mph along the shoreline. That windy pattern is set to stick around into Monday.

Beach conditions will be especially rough. The high winds are creating a high rip current risk along Central Florida’s coast that will last through Tuesday. Breaking waves up to 6 feet are forecast for Monday, with 5-foot surf predicted for Tuesday.
