Extreme Cold Watch

Sunday’s morning temperatures are expected to be in the 20s across the region but dangerously cold wind chills are possible and can get as low as 7 degrees. Even short time outside could lead to frostbite or hypothermia.

Strong, gusty winds are also expected on Saturday, with gusts reaching 35 to 45 mph or higher, making it feel even colder. These freeze conditions could kill crops, damage sensitive plants, and potentially cause problems for unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Saturday into Sunday

Preparations should be finished by Saturday morning. If you need to go outside, dress in layers and cover exposed skin. Bring pets indoors, check on elderly family members and neighbors, and use space heaters safely. Never use generators or grills indoors. To protect pipes, wrap them, drain them, or allow faucets to drip slowly. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
