Dry start to the week before storm chances climb into the holiday weekend

Summerlike sea breeze storms return

ORLANDO, Fla. – A more summerlike weather pattern is settling into Central Florida this week, with warm temperatures, breezy onshore winds, and increasing rain and storm chances as we head toward the Memorial Day weekend.

MONDAY

Expect a mix of sun and clouds on Monday, with highs climbing into the upper 80s along the coast and low 90s inland. Easterly winds will increase this afternoon as the sea breeze develops, bringing gusts of 20 to 25 mph at times.

A few isolated to scattered showers and storms will develop this afternoon, mainly south of Orlando, with coverage 10-20%.

THIS WEEK

The bigger story is the gradual increase in moisture later this week and into Memorial Day weekend. Daily rain and storm chances are expected to rise, especially by Saturday and Sunday, when coverage could increase to 50 to 70 percent across parts of Central Florida.

The overall setup looks very typical for late May in Florida, with scattered afternoon storms developing along the sea breeze each day.

Forecast models show deeper tropical moisture moving into the state by the holiday weekend, which could lead to more widespread showers and storms.

Even with the increasing rain chances, temperatures will stay warm with highs near 90 degrees most afternoons and humid nights continuing through the weekend.
