ORLANDO, Fla. – A westerly wind shift for this weekend means that sea breeze storms will form a little farther east than usual and favor our side of the state in the afternoon. A partly cloudy and dry Saturday morning will help high temperatures climb into the low-mid 90s and heat indices around 100ºF. This is the fuel to spark our sea breeze thunderstorms.
They will develop near the I-4 corridor just after lunchtime. With a very light NNW steering flow, these storms will be nearly stationary, slowly drifting to the south. As our sea breeze collapses late afternoon into the early evening, the shower chances will swing towards the east coast.
This will allow our storms to linger longer into the evening than usual. Saturday night plans around town will need to feature an indoor option or rain gear in the car.
A similar scene will play out for Sunday as our SW winds continue. This will allow temperatures to climb into the mid 90s with showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. These storms will form between I-4 and I-95. The sea breeze will try to push inland but our westerly winds will keep the sea breeze from pushing much farther than the I-4 corridor. As the sea breeze collapses into the early evening, these showers will push into our east coast neighborhoods.
