ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida is in for another stretch of dangerous heat with only a few storms to provide relief.
TUESDAY
A heat advisory is in effect Tuesday, which marks the first day for Orange County and Sumter County schools, and the heat is expected to continue through the weekend with highs in the 90s and heat indices approaching 110 degrees.
A few isolated to widely scattered showers and storms may develop this afternoon and evening as the sea breezes collide, but coverage will remain low at just 20 to 30%.
Any storm that develops could produce frequent lightning, wind gusts of 30 to 50 mph, and locally heavy rain, but most areas will stay dry. Storm activity should fade by around 8 p.m.
THIS WEEK
The heat remains the bigger concern through the rest of the week. Wednesday through Friday will bring more low to mid 90s, with heat indices occasionally reaching 105 to 110 degrees. Rain chances remain below normal, generally ranging from 20 to 40%, meaning most communities will see limited storm coverage.
WEEKEND
By the weekend, the heat wave is expected to continue as high pressure strengthens across the Southeast. Rain chances will remain low, with only isolated to scattered afternoon storms possible, especially near and south of I-4.
Highs will stay in the low to mid 90s, while Moderate to Major Heat Risk is expected across Central Florida.
