Orlando police investigate fatal shooting

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man who was shot and killed early Sunday in Orange County has been identified as 31-year-old Howard Roger III, according to the Orlando Police Department.

The shooting was reported at 3:32 a.m. at Old Winter Garden and Mission roads, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

"I just heard some gunfire while we were sleeping last night," a resident who didn't want to be identified said. "The first sounded like bam, bam, like a machine gun. It sounded like a machine gun."

Deputies found Roger with a life-threatening gunshot wound inside of a vehicle at the intersection, according to the incident report. The man later died from his injuries, deputies said.

Evidence markers were placed next to shell cases left  behind in a parking lot. There was a second scene a few blocks down the road at Old Winter Garden and Mission roads, where a car crashed into a telephone pole.

News 6 also saw evidence markers lining the street. The roadway was blocked off from traffic so detectives could preserve the scene.

The OCSO said there is no suspect information at this time, but an investigation is ongoing. The Sheriff's Office later said that the Orlando Police Department will investigate the death.

This is the latest shooting to happen in this area in less than a month.

On November 13, four people were shot and two people were hit by a car during a block part on Ivey Lane and Conley street, not far from Sunday's shooting.

Then, a week later, on November 18, 22-year-old Antonio Smith was shot and killed inside a small food mart on Ivey Lane.
