Red, Hot & Boom kicks off Fourth of July holiday

Altamonte Springs event draws thousands

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – One of the biggest annual Fourth of July celebrations in Central Florida kicked off the holiday in Seminole County on Tuesday night.

Rain didn't stop the tens of thousands of people who flocked to the Red, Hot & Boom 2012 celebration at Cranes Roost Park, which ran from 4 p.m. to until 11 p.m.

Hundreds of people staked out a good spot to watch the fireworks for hours. Rick Rucker said he arrived at the park at 8:30 a.m. and immediately set up a tent for shade.

"This keeps the sun off where you can enjoy," Rucker told Local 6.

More than 50 firefighters and paramedics are loaded up with medical supplies and ready to respond to the effects of the 90-degree weather on Tuesday. Officials said bike crews are riding around checking for the early signs of heat exhaustion.

The fireworks will be displayed at 9:30 p.m. The artist lineup consisted of Chris Rene, Neon Hitch, A Rocket To The Moon, Outasight, Jo Jo, Karmin, JayMac and Cobra Starship.
