PALM BAY, Fla. – A veteran and Purple Heart recipient now has a place to call home, thanks to the Military Warriors Foundation.
It's a three bedroom, two bathroom, 1,400 square foot home and for the Langford family it's mortgage free, but it came with a price.
"I never imagine a guy coming from behind a wall and throwing a grenade. It was the last thing I was waiting to see," said Jonathan Langford.
Three years ago, Langford was hit with a grenade when he was on patrol in Eastern Afghanistan. The blow left him with several broken bones and plenty of bad memories.
On Wednesday, he and his family saw their brand new home for the first time.
"This hasn't sunk in yet. It's surreal," said Langford.
The Langford's new home was seized in foreclosure by Wells Fargo. Rather than sell it, the bank donated it through the Military Warriors Foundation. Wells Fargo works with the foundation to help veterans who need homes.
"It's amazing and emotional," said Tyler Smith with Wells Fargo Bank. "The veterans that receive homes are always very humble and it makes us feel that much better about the great work we are able to do for them."
Langford has three Purple Hearts, which are medals that commemorate the three different times he was injured in combat. He said he's glad to be back in the U.S. and is excited to see what Brevard County has to offer.
"I can't wait to go out and explore Palm Bay, Melbourne, and Brevard County. I got a new home," said Langford.
Jonathan and his family plan on officially moving in on Monday and will live mortgage free for the next three years as he takes financial education courses. Once the courses are completed, he will receive the deed to his home.
