Bobcats on loose in Brevard County community

Neighbors concerned after bobcat sightings

PALM BAY, Fla. – A Brevard County community is on edge after recent bobcat sightings.

Neighbors along Eve Street near American Boulevard in Palm Bay told Local 6 that the bobcats roam around woods in the area, but as of late have been coming closer to homes.

"It's a pretty big cat," said Berwinzs Official.

Official says his brother took a picture of one of the bobcats around 6 p.m. Thursday.

He says he's concerned about his animals getting hurt by the bobcats. In fact, some of his chickens have gone missing in recent days.

"The neighbors have chickens, too," said Official. "So, he has food."

He said he called animal control last night about the problem. They came out Friday, but said there was nothing they could do about it.

The neighborhood backs up into a wooded area and neighbors said that's where they live.

"It scares the heck out of me," said Debbie Leonhardt.

Leonhardt lives a few blocks away from where the latest bobcat was spotted. She now will be more vigilant when walking her dog around the block.

"I'm afraid to walk out of my house," she said.

As a result of the sightings, Animal Services will be checking up on the area for any bobcats.

If you see one, they first urge you to stay away, then give them a call.
