Patrick Cotton, 22, was arrested on charges of grand theft.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials have identified the woman as 22-year-old Jessica Demko.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office assisted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in searching Lake Weir at Lemon Point near Summerfield.
After 7 p.m. Friday, FWC officials said they recovered a body from the lake that is believed to be that of Demko's.
FWC officials told Local 6 Cotton stole a boat from his friend around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, and he took a group of four friends out for a joyride.
During that ride, Cotton said Demko fell overboard.
The owner of the boat called police after he said Cotton called him to tell him about the accident.
Divers searched all day Friday for any sign of Demko.
FWC officials said the divers would be out until the sun set.
Hope Boat Ramp has been closed due to the search efforts, according to Marion County officials. Residents wishing to use boat ramps on Lake Weir should visit Carney Island.
