13-year-old shot after fight outside McDonald's in Orange County

Victim's mother drove teen for miles to get help

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 13-year-old boy was shot inside his mother's car Tuesday night after she got into an argument outside a McDonald's in Orange County, authorities said.

Orange County deputies tell News 6 that the boy's mother had taken her son and another child to the restaurant on Silver Star and Pine Hills roads. The mother then got into a disturbance with a man in the parking lot, deputies said.

The mother drove away from the McDonald's, but the man followed her, according to deputies.  When she reached the intersection of Hiawassee Road, a third car drove up next to them and someone inside started firing shots, deputies said.

"To shoot into a car with young kids in it?  It's sad," said McDonald's customer Philip Jackson.

The teen was struck in the leg, and deputies said his mother drove nearly 3 miles before flagging down an Ocoee police officer to get help.

The boy was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  No one else inside the car was injured.

Deputies described the shooter as a black male with dreadlocks. He was driving a blue four-door sedan.
