Woman last seen in Volusia might be with abusive husband, deputies say

Rachael Madison last seen in Ormond Beach area

ORMOND BY-THE-SEA, Fla. – A woman who went missing in Ormond Beach area Sunday could be in the company of her estranged husband and now deputies are working determine whether she went with him willingly or if she is endangered, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

Rachael L. Madison, 44, of Indiana, was staying with her aunt in Ormond-by-the-Sea to distance herself from her estranged husband, 58-year-old Jarvis Madison, deputies said.

Rachael's aunt, Thelma Newsom, called 911 on Sunday after Madison went jogging at 1:30 p.m. and did not return, according to the 911 call. She had no money or cellphone with her and she has no contacts in the area.

Newsom told 911 dispatchers that Jarvis Madison had been making threatening phone calls "that he was going to get [Rachael]."

"I'm afraid he has abducted her," she said. "He shot at her."

Newsom said she went up to Indiana to get Rachael about a week ago after her husband "took a shot at her."

Rachael was trying to escape when her husband fired a gun at her along a road in Indiana, according to the police report. She got away and was able to flag down a security officer at a nearby Walmart.

Indiana troopers were not able to find Jarvis Madison after the shooting.

Jarvis Madison is wanted in Indiana on charges of criminal confinement and is possibly carrying a handgun, according to Volusia County deputies.

Deputies said she might be with her estranged husband, but they're still working to determine the circumstances. It's possible they're traveling in a silver 2011 Honda Pilot with Indiana tag EN2348.

Rachael Madison was last seen wearing men's navy blue basketball shorts, a light-colored jacket, and blue and black slip-on Sketchers shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 888-277-TIPS.
