ORLANDO, Fla. – Orange County Commissioner Regina Hill and community leaders are calling for peace in Orlando after a series of deadly downtown-area shootings.
Hill hosted a ”Prayer and Revival” event at Pete’s Famous BBQ on Wednesday, along with Bishop Kelvin Cobaris, Yewston “Pete” Parker and other civic leaders, according to a news release.

"We must come together as a community to seek solutions to the violence that is claiming too many lives. We must work together to protect our families and make our communities and streets safe, our children are watching and they deserve a safe community to grow and thrive," Hill said. "As a leader in the black community and as a woman of faith, I believe it is important to reach out to the faith-based community for solutions and answers. This isn't a financial commitment, but a commitment of service to a community in desperate need of healing and direction."
Five men were shot in Orlando over Thanksgiving weekend. Two died.
Lee Baldwin Jr. was shot and killed at his Maxwell Terrance apartment doorstep on the morning of Nov. 26.
Richard Burgos, 23, was found dead on Orange Avenue early on the morning of Nov. 27.
On the same day, two men were shot on Crooms Avenue near Camping World Stadium. They are in critical but stable condition at the hospital.
Also on Nov. 27, an unidentified man was shot in front of the Days Inn on south Orange Blossom Trail. He is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.
