14-year-old boy charged in Titusville shooting

Dante Hampton Jr. arrested after pursuit

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – A 14-year-old boy in Brevard County is charged with attempted murder, following a shooting in Titusville. 

Police said they arrested Dante Hampton Jr. Jan.9 for firing gunshots along Roosevelt Street in Titusville Jan. 4.

Hampton was released with an ankle monitor on Jan. 10, but police said he cut it off a week later. 

Investigators say Hampton then fired shots into a home on Burning Tree Drive last Wednesday. 

Hampton was arrested Monday night after police said witnesses saw him driving a stolen Nissan Sentra on South Washington Avenue. 

After a brief chase, officers arrested Hampton and the car's driver, Gary Thomas Jr., 19, along I-95 near the Wickham Road exit. 

Hampton is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, attempted murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, violation of home detention and tampering with an electronic device. 

Thomas is charged with fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a crash with damage and driving with a suspended license.
