Brevard County Fire Rescue crews sent to assist with fire in Geneva

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Two brush fires were burning in Central Florida Friday afternoon, fire officials said.

Fire crews responded to a wildfire near the east side of Lake Jesup in Geneva around 4:20 p.m. The fire was estimated to be more than 25 acres. It was 80 percent contained at 8 p.m.

A voluntary evacuation was in place for Cochran Road and the area of Seminole Woods Boulevard.

The Seminole County Fire Department said the fire had spread to approximately 50 acres by 5:10 p.m. The fire was about 65 percent contained at 6 p.m., according to the Florida Forest Service.

Brevard County Fire Rescue crews were sent to assist Seminole County fire officials with the response.

The Seminole County Fire Department said the fire was being contained at 6:15 p.m. and evacuations were canceled. 

A fire that began on Merritt Island Thursday night grew by Friday afternoon, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service firefighters conducted a tactical firing operation, according to fire officials. The fire spread to 200 acres as of Thursday night. Fire officials did not say how big the fire was Friday afternoon.
