1-month-old boy dies in Cocoa

Police investigation underway

COCOA, Fla. – Cocoa police are investigating the death of a 1-month-old boy after the caregiver called to report the infant was not breathing.

The incident was reported to Cocoa police about 12:15 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Flower Mound Lane in the Oak Meadows Apartments, News 6 partner Florida Today reported.

Paramedics arrived at the home within minutes and found the infant unresponsive before pronouncing him dead, police reported.

“It is a death investigation. The parents are being cooperative but obviously, they were traumatized,” said Yvonne Martinez, spokeswoman for the Cocoa Police Department.

The Brevard County Medical Examiner's Office told News 6 Thursday that an autopsy was completed, but those results were not released as of Thursday afternoon.

A man who said he was the baby's father said the boy accidentally turned over in his sleep.
