Hogwarts Express at Universal Orlando evacuated

Technical issue stopped train on tracks

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Hogwarts Express ride at Universal Orlando Resort's Wizarding World of Harry Potter was evacuated Thursday afternoon after a technical issue, according to a theme park official.

Universal Orlando Resort Public Relations Senior Director Alyson Lundell said the train experience a technical issue at 3:15 p.m. and came to a stop between stations.

"With help from the Orlando Fire Department, all of our guests were safely assisted off the ride. Some of our guests have required assistance with heat issues, but fortunately none of those guests have required transport to the hospital," Lundell said.

All guests were off the ride by 4:30 p.m., a theme park official said.

Sky 6 video from over the theme park showed the red-and-black train stopped on the track, which spans from King's Cross Station in London at Universal Studios Florida to Hogsmeade Station in Universal's Islands of Adventure.

Video also showed a fire truck and an ambulance parked nearby.

Guests on social media tweeted that they spent close to an hour stuck on the ride without any air conditioning.

"Train was dangerously hot and humid, people passing out or close to it. The train worker in our car was kind and as helpful as possible," one woman tweeted.

Universal Orlando did not provide information on how long it took for the ride to be evacuated.
