Woman killed in Orange County mobile home park shooting, deputies say

Crimeline reward offered for information

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A woman is dead after a shooting at the Lake Downey Mobile Home Park Wednesday night.

Orange County deputies had the entrance to the mobile home park blocked off to everyone besides residents as they investigated the shooting.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said it received reports around 8:15 p.m. that someone had been shot at 9812 Downey Hill St.

Investigators said a woman in her 40s was found with gunshot wounds and taken to Florida Hospital East, where she was pronounced dead. She was identified Thursday as Micaela Martinez, a wife and mother of three adult children.

Orange County Deputy Ingrid Tejada-Monforte said someone target shooting in the nearby woods could be to blame for the shooting, which appears to be accidental.

"The stray bullet went through and this innocent bystander got struck with it," Tejada-Monforte said.

The victim's son, Bernave Vazquez, told News 6 that his mother was making food for her other son to take to work the next day when she dropped on the kitchen floor.

"I see my mom weeping and crying," Vazquez said. "I see blood on her arm. I'm not sure where she got shot. And I start screaming, 'She has been shot. She has been shot.'"

Vazquez said his family rushed to try to save his mother.

"My sister was crying because next year she's going to be a senior and she's going to be graduating. She saw me and my brother graduate, but she isn't going to see her graduate," Vazquez said.

Residents inside the Lake Downey Mobile Home Park said deputies searched the entire property.

"When the police are like, 'What's your ID? Can you produce it to come back in?' Yeah, that is a little bit concerning for sure,” resident Justine Beasley said.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said homicide and forensic investigators were at the scene Wednesday night investigating.

Anyone with information about the death is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
