Montiero's knowledge and straight-forward advice has made him a trusted expert with the FHP.

“As our new traffic safety expert, Steve has the know-how to present traffic in a whole new way for our viewers,” WKMG news Director Allison McGinley said. “Not only can he share with us how to get around a traffic incident, but how to avoid being part of it in the first place.

A native of Central Florida, McGinley said that his local knowledge will benefit News 6 and ClickOrlando.com viewers.

"He has worked and driven almost every road in Central Florida," McGinley said. "The intimate knowledge of highways to side streets is just invaluable for our viewers.”

During Montiero's 8-year career with the FHP, he served on the agency's motorcycle unit, saving lives on the road, and later as the assistance public affairs officer, spreading knowledge about traffic safety.

“I am passionate about saving lives,” Montiero said. “I have seen so many things on the roads of Central Florida that I know can be prevented. I want to bring what I have learned out there to viewers in a way that can help their day go smoothly and keep them out of some of the dangerous situations I have encountered. News 6 is committed to getting results, and I am, too. It was a perfect fit!”

Montiero will continue working as a reserve trooper for the FHP.
