Woman fatally stabs Burger King co-worker in Deltona, deputies say

Samantha Bonilla, 29, charged with second-degree murder

DELTONA, Fla. – A man was stabbed to death early Tuesday during a fight with a co-worker at a Burger King in Volusia County, deputies said.

The fatal stabbing was reported at 2:31 a.m. at the Burger King at 2790 Elkcam Blvd. in Deltona.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said a woman flagged down a deputy, who found the victim lying on the ground. The victim was taken to Halifax Health in Deltona, where he died.

Police said they reviewed surveillance video of the incident and identified Samantha Bonilla, 29, as the suspected stabber.

The video shows the victim, Justin Hooks, 29, sitting with a friend outside the restaurant, playing cards. Bonilla walked up and started arguing with Hooks, and after a brief fight she moved at Hooks with a knife pointed at his face, police said. The video shows the victim pushed Bonilla and she fell to the ground, dropping the knife. When Bonilla got up, she stabbed Hooks and left the scene, according to police.

Police said the friend who witnessed the stabbing told them Hooks and Bonilla both worked at Burger King and the fight was about relationships Bonilla had with Hooks and another co-worker.

Bonilla was detained soon after leaving the scene and booked into the Volusia County Jail Tuesday afternoon.
