DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A naked man who claimed he planted a bomb at the Daytona Beach International Airport attempted to get onto the tarmac, prompting an evacuation, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said.
The airport, located at 700 Catalina Drive in Daytona Beach, was evacuated around 6 a.m., sending more than 200 passengers outside.

Chitwood said authorities received a call about a naked man running around the terminal, and deputies confronted John Greenwood, 25, who was naked on the baggage carousel and yelled, "The bomb is going to go off. I planted a bomb in the bathroom."
Deputies used a Taser to stun Greenwood, who was taken into custody. Chitwood said Greenwood was transported to a hospital and admitted to using Molly and other drugs the night before.
"This is one of those cases where truth is stranger than fiction," Chitwood said.
A bomb squad used K-9 units to search the airport, but no bomb was found and the airport returned to normal operations.
Chitwood said Greenwood, who was not a passenger, had entered the airport fully clothed and went into a ladies restroom, where he stripped and hid his clothes in a backpack that he stuffed behind some sheetrock.

Chitwood said Greenwood faces charges of burglary, false bomb report, criminal mischief, resisting arrest without violence, exposure of sexual organs and unlawful possession of personal identification of another person. Greenwood was held twice in 2007 under the Baker Act and was also arrested on an allegation of assault on a Daytona Beach police officer, said Chitwood, who added that he didn't believe Greenwood served any prison time on the charge.
Two flights were departing the airport at the time of the incident, and all affected passengers, who waited outside the airport for about 90 minutes, were re-screened before boarding their flights, officials said.
Chitwood praised the efforts of airport officials and the TSA, saying safety is their No. 1 goal.
"I think you saw that on display today," Chitwood said.
Airport spokesman Jay Cassenss thanked Chitwood for his agency's quick response.
"(This is) not something we go through every day," he said.
"It's not going to be a good Friday if I got a naked guy trying to board a plane," Chitwood said.

Greenwood is expected to make his first appearance before a judge Saturday morning.
