Teen taken into custody after shooting on Rila Street SE, police say

PALM BAY, Fla. – Officers from the Palm Bay Police Department are investigating a case in which two juveniles were shot Saturday afternoon.

A 13-year-old boy has been taken into custody and charged with attempted murder, occupied burglary and possession of a firearm by someone under the age of 21, detectives said.

Police said they recovered a semi-automatic handgun believed to have been used in the shooting, which took place in the 1400 block of Rila Street Southeast.

Police received a call about the shooting at 5:47 p.m. Officers said upon arrival, they found two juveniles suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police have not released the victims' ages.

The two juveniles were taken to local hospitals in serious but stable condition, police said.

A news release from officers said both victims remained in the hospital Sunday. One victim was transferred to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando, according to the news release.

The victims were found in a backyard when police arrived, but it's unclear where the shooting took place.

Officers said additional charges for the suspect and owner of the gun are under investigation.
