Woman found dead on side of road near Lake Apopka

Body discovered along Lust Road

APOPKA, Fla. – Detectives are investigating after an unidentified woman's body was found Thursday on an Apopka road, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the body of a white woman in her late 20s or early 30s was found around 8 a.m. along Lust Road in a rural area near Lake Apopka. Her name has not been released.

"It makes the investigation kind of difficult at this time," said Deputy Ingrid Tejada-Monforte. "We don't know how she got there, if she went on her own, or if somebody left her there."

Deputies said a person driving along the road, which dead ends at the entrance of the Apopka Wildlife Drive, found the body and called 911.

The homicide and forensic units were called out to the scene. Officials said there was no trauma to the body and they aren't calling it a suspicious death investigation. However, that doesn't mean deputies are ruling out the possibility of foul play.

"It's very sad to find someone in that area. We need to learn her history. We need to know who she is and notify the next of kin and continue with the investigation," Tejada-Monforte said.

Investigators are checking the area's missing person reports and looking to see if anyone filed a new report last night or early this morning.

Deputies hope forensics and the autopsy report from the medical examiner's office may give them more answers.

Detectives will be going to the Clear Lake Landings subdivision near where the body was found to see if anyone knows or saw anything.

"Anyone that lives in that subdivision, if they have a family member that is missing, that had any kind of drug issue or was ill or sick and have not returned home, please contact the Orange County Sheriff's Office," Tejada-Monforte said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
