Man dead after being struck by vehicle, Satellite Beach police say

Police: 82-year-old Merritt Island resident was crossing A1A when struck

SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. – A man is dead after being struck by a vehicle Friday evening, according to the Satellite Beach Police Department.

The crash happened just before 7:30 p.m. Friday on State Road A1A at Roosevelt Avenue.

Police said the 82-year-old Merritt Island resident was crossing A1A to walk to a relative's home nearby when he was fatally struck by a southbound vehicle.

The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

The driver of the vehicle was cooperative and showed no signs of impairment, according to the Satellite Beach Police Department.

The Florida Highway Patrol is handling the investigation, police said.
