Police said the child's father, Calib J. Scott, 23, has been charged with neglect of a child, aggravated child abuse and first-degree murder involving aggravated child abuse.

Details about what led to the infant's death have not been released.

A report said the baby had open sores and wounds near his nose, mouth and elsewhere on his face. He also had a circular burn on his ear that was suspected to be caused by a cigarette, records show.

Scott told officers the wounds were a few weeks old, and although it was obvious that the baby needed medical attention, neither he nor the child's mother sought treatment, according to authorities.

Police said the home where the child lives was littered with dog feces and extremely unhygienic.

The child's death is still being investigated, according to police.
