BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol said two people are dead after a crash on U.S. 1 in Brevard County on Wednesday night.
Troopers responded to the four-vehicle crash in the area of U.S. 1 and Silver Oak Boulevard around 5:30 p.m.
Investigators say Peter Avner, 81, of Melbourne was driving his 2017 KIA in the northbound lanes of U.S. 1.
FHP said Avner lost control and went into the southbound lanes.
He hit another car head-on, according to FHP.
Avner and the driver of the car he hit head-on, Rabilal Nandlal , 68, of Melbourne were pronounced dead Wednesday night.
The drivers in the other two vehicles in the crash did not sustain serious injuries.
The northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 1 were closed in the area earlier in the night.
