Edwards was arrested Sunday by the West Melbourne Police Department on charges of battery, violation of probation and resisting arrest with violence.

Sheriff's officials said West Melbourne officers responded to a complaint in which Edwards was accused of battering a worker who was placing toys in a truck for a children’s charity.

Edwards began acting erratic and became combative with the officers during the arrest and booking process, officials said.

An autopsy was conducted by the Brevard Medical Examiner, but the findings are pending until lab and toxicology reports are finalized, officials said.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating the death.  Previous inhalant use or  abuse has been identified as a possible cause of the medical event, deputies said.
