Standoff ends after man carjacked at gunpoint, deputies say

Deputies surround car at shopping center near OBT, Sand Lake Road

ORLANDO, Fla. – A suspected carjacker who held a driver at gunpoint in Orange County was involved in an hours-long standoff with deputies at a shopping center, authorities said.

The standoff unfolded near South Orange Blossom Trail and Sand Lake Road.

Orange County sheriff's deputies said the victim was stopped at an intersection around 2:43 a.m. when Etoy Lashawn Love Jr., 25, approached him, demanded his car, pointed a gun at him and pulled him from the vehicle. The victim was not injured.

Love then stole the victim's car, which was spotted a short time later in the parking lot of a Goodwill on Orange Blossom Trail, deputies said.

Deputies surrounded the car, but Love would not cooperate with authorities, officials said. Video appeared to show deputies pointing their guns at the vehicle. Deputies said Love appeared to be passed out and under the influence of drugs.

The standoff ended peacefully when Love woke up and exited the car around 8 a.m., officials said.

Love is charged with armed trespassing in an occupied conveyance and carrying a concealed firearm.

Deputies initially identified the victim as a woman, but then later corrected the information to say the victim was a man.
