The National Insurance Crime Bureau has released its latest figures showing the number of stolen cars in Florida last year.

According to the NICB’s data, overall vehicle thefts for much of the Sunshine State actually dropped between 2023 and 2024.

However, the cars that were stolen primarily involved Hyundais, Hondas and Toyotas.

The top 10 types of stolen vehicles in Florida were as follows:

Nationally, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Kia Optima also experienced huge swaths of thefts, with 21,666 and 17,493 incidents respectively.

Regionally, the Orlando metro area saw a significant drop in vehicle thefts, dipping 25% from 2023, per the NICB.

Statewide, the area ranked fourth for vehicle theft rates, with only Gainesville coming in below.

To prevent car thefts in the future, the NICB provides the following tips:

  • Do not leave your keys in your vehicle
  • Do not leave the area while your vehicle is running
  • Park in well-lit areas
  • Close and lock all windows and doors when you park
  • Hide valuables out of sight, such as in the glove box or trunk
  • If your vehicle is stolen, call law enforcement and your insurer immediately. Reporting a vehicle stolen as soon as possible increases the chance of recovery
