Residents living at own risk after inspection finds corrosion at condo complex

Engineer inspects steel columns at Spring Park Terraces at Celebration Condos

CELEBRATION, Fla. – People living at a condo complex in Celebration remain at their own risk after an inspection found severe corrosion there, officials said.

County officials said an inspector has concluded the balconies are unsafe and could possibly collapse.

Osceola County officials said that on Oct. 29, they hired an engineer to inspect steel columns at the Spring Park Terraces at Celebration Condos.

In a report given to News 6, the engineer submitted photos of steel columns used to provide support for the building's balconies. The engineer wrote in their findings the balconies may "fail catastrophically in the near future and thus requires immediate replacement."

Osceola County said its concern is that a resident could be harmed in the event of a collapse.

As for the cause, the county said its inspectors determined moisture has been building up in the area near the steel columns, causing the corrosion.

Online property records show the condominium was built in 2003.

Osceola County said it's up to the property owners to make the repairs, but again, at this time, people aren't being forced out and instead are staying at their own risk.
